What to know
- Emissions-legal only: we never relay delete tunes, defeat devices or catalytic converter removal
- Dyno sessions document before-and-after power so you can see what a tune actually changed
- Ask how the shop handles warranty concerns and whether the stock calibration is saved
- Turbo and E85 builds need custom calibration, which costs more and takes longer
Typical emissions-legal ecu tuning and dyno prices (estimates)
| Package | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Dyno power runs only (no tune) | $150–$250 |
| Stage 1 bolt-on ECU tune | $350–$600 |
| Custom forced-induction / E85 tune | $600–$1,200+ |
| Diesel dyno tune (emissions equipment retained) | $400–$800 |
Estimates, not quotes. Ranges are compiled from published 2025 U.S. pricing guides and shop price lists, and are not specific to any shop. Your price depends on the vehicle, its size and condition, the film or product, and the shop. Sources: Iron Ridge Motorsports: Dyno Tuning price list.
Emissions-legal only
Federal law prohibits removing or defeating emissions controls, including with software, in every state. Texas also requires OBDII emissions tests in the nine DFW-area counties; Ohio's E-Check covers seven Northeast Ohio counties (not Columbus). We never relay delete or defeat-device requests.

FAQ
Is ECU tuning legal?
Tuning itself is not illegal, but any tune that removes, disables or defeats an emissions control is illegal under the federal Clean Air Act in every state. PitRelay only relays emissions-legal work.
Will a tune void my warranty?
It can affect warranty coverage on related parts. Ask the shop how it handles this and whether the stock file is saved so it can be restored.
What is a dyno tune?
The car is run on a chassis dynamometer while the tuner adjusts and verifies the calibration, so gains and air-fuel ratios are measured instead of guessed.
Do you help with diesel delete tunes?
No. Emissions deletes are illegal, and we do not relay those requests.
How long does a tune take?
An off-the-shelf flash can take an hour or two. A custom dyno tune usually takes most of a day.
